The Boquet River Theatre Festival (BRTF) is a non-profit organization designed to provide young people with theatrical training and experience. It was created in 1993 in Whallonsburg, NY by Erika Stadtlander (Founding Artistic Director) and Darcey Hulburt (Founding Collaborative Director). For the first 12 years of BRTF’s existence they produced original full-length musicals written by Erika Stadlander. BRTF plays had strong themes of humanity, honesty, generosity, integrity, kindness, good will, humor, and respect. Since then, the reins have been passed down to new directors.
Now the Boquet River Theatre Festival is comprised of two groups of young individuals: BRTF Junior for children ages 8 to 12, and BRTF Senior for children ages 13 to young adult. They produce published shows dealing with the same themes that the original musicals prized. All performances are held in August at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall.
